COVID-19: The Suppression Triangle
COVID-19 is giving us a crash course in the workings of exponential growth – and then exponential decline, we hope, as we suppress the pandemic. Lumina CTO, Lonnie Chrisman, shows how to visualize the growth and decline on a log scale using a Suppression Triangle model. You can see how it works. Download the Analytica model to try it out, fit lines to data on cases and deaths, and explore future scenarios for your state or country.

Analytica in Tabeau: Beta testers wanted
Tableau is a great tool for visualizing results as charts and maps. But Tableau dashboards don’t let you change input assumptions to explore new scenarios – until now! We’ve integrated Tableau with the Analytica Cloud Platform (ACP). You can create Tableau dashboards to how ACP results as tables, charts, and maps. And you can embed Analytica user inputs into a. dashboard using Tableau extensions – to enter numbers, pulldown menus, or select a point on a map. This makes Tableau far more interactive! When you change an input, it reruns the ACP model and updates the results on the dashboard.
The Business Analysis Lifecycle
Epiphany: Where Insight Meets Data
Financial modeling often reveals deeper insights into a business case. Toward that end, Professor Tom Grossman at USF created a framework for the “Business Analysis Lifecycle” to explore how the “real world ” and the “model world” relate to each other. The BA Lifecycle conceptual model is about the WHAT. What are the decisions to be made? What are the options? What metrics? What is the business logic that connects the actions to the desired outcome? This ‘flow chart’ or ‘influence diagram’ depicts the various ‘ingredients’ and how they influence each other. The calculation model is about the HOW. How do the various inputs and assumptions convert into the financials? To discover why and how this epiphany comes together, read on.
